Biologics at Sandoz

Sandoz, the generics division of the Novartis Group, has decades of experience in the commercial production of high-quality biologics for use by external customers, as well as other Novartis divisions.  This experience goes back to 1946, when the company started using fermentation-based technology to produce antibiotics.

Sandoz has been producing biologic products and intermediates for third party customers worldwide for several decades.  In 1980, it produced one of the first recombinant proteins, an interferon alfa.  Sandoz has been developing biosimilars, or follow-on biologics, since 1996.
